The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to function as a Cleaning Practitioner.

A Cleaning Practitioner supervises cleaning services to customer requirements as per service level agreement, organisational resources as well as safety of the staff, customer, and customer clients.

The typical graduate attributes for a Cleaning Practitioner include among other a reasonable level of physical fitness, punctuality, reliability, trustworthy, time management, independency, teamwork, and leadership.

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Oversee Cleaning Operations on site.
  • Oversee Human Resources on site.

 

This qualification is aimed at providing updated supervisory and compliance monitoring skills within the fast-growing hygiene and cleaning sector with regards to managing cleaning resources, staff and facilities. The need for this occupational qualification arises from pending deregistration of the legacy qualification and an ongoing need by the industry to continue providing skills relevant for supervision of cleaning staff.

This qualification will provide the cleaning sector with a ready workforce that can deliver, guide, and promote safe and high-quality cleaning services. It is designed for supervision of cleaning teams working within commercial, residential, health and domestic situations.

The qualification accounts for soft skills and legal compliance, which shall improve the quality of service. A hygienically cleaned environment enhances employee wellness and productivity. The society will benefit from new employment of qualified employees and working environment that is healthy. This qualification will produce a more well-versed cleaners that have gained knowledge, practical, work experience and have been assessed at each component thereby leading to a more skilled Cleaning Practitioners.

Typical learners for this qualification will be drawn from those already employed in the cleaning services sector, namely, commercial cleaning, laundry work and domestic cleaning. Qualified learners will have an opportunity to pursue further training towards commercial housekeeping and supervisory roles in laundry and dry-cleaning business outlets contributing to career mobility.

This qualification does not require professional registration, membership or licencing by recognised professional bodies. 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
RPL for access to a qualification

  • Learners will gain access to the qualification through RPL for Access as provided for in the QCTO RPL Policy. RPL for access is conducted by accredited education institution, skills development provider or workplace accredited to offer that specific qualification/part qualification.

    RPL for exemption of modules
  • Learners who have acquired competencies of the modules of a qualification or part qualification will be credited for modules through RPL.

    RPL for access to the external integrated summative assessment:
  • Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of result.

    Entry Requirements:
    An NQF Level 2 qualification.
